This 90-minute class will explore the foundational techniques of ceramic hand-building with Slowfire teacher Ms. Jeny! In a small group, students will have fun learning all the ways they can build functional and sculptural items out of water-based clay. We will then underglaze with a wide variety of colors, learn about specialty surface design techniques, and add a clear glass coat to their pieces. Students will make some of the following: planters, lanterns, sculptures, and beads. We will be firing and glazing their works, which requires time for the clay to dry, and the kilns to fire, so please note students will be bringing their work home at the end of the session! All materials, plus outside labor and kiln fees, are included in the cost of the class. All materials and kiln firings are included in the cost of the class. Please note each artwork must go through the kiln twice and there is substantial off-site labor involved in processing student work.
